Entropix CEO Dr Rob Rule recently hosted Indro Mukerjee (CEO of Innovate UK) and delegates from The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) at our Sci-Tech Daresbury laboratory. It was an opportune meeting to discuss the science behind enzyme engineering and bio catalysis and how the directed evolution of enzymes may help to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
Innovate UK is the UK’s national innovation agency which supports business-led innovation in all sectors and UK regions. It provides government funding to businesses and research organisations around the UK to support and stimulate innovation in the UK economy, primarily through grant funding competitions.
Since 2004, Innovate UK has funded thousands of innovation projects across many strategically important sectors to the tune of over £12.5bn. Such investments are fundamental to realising the UK government’s ambition for the country to become a global hub for innovation by 2035.
Dr Rule said, “Innovate UK’s role in helping companies grow through the development and commercialisation of new products, services and technologies is vital to the health of the country’s biotechnology sector. I was encouraged by Indro’s enthusiasm for enzyme engineering and by his ongoing commitment to helping early-stage biotechnology businesses to accelerate the development of their technology platforms”.
