Research Scientist Vacancy – Computational Biology/Machine Learning

Entropix Ltd is a dynamic young biotech business created in 2021 and is based in laboratories at SciTech Daresbury, UK. At Entropix, we aim to improve the sustainability of plastics by developing enzymes that are capable of degrading plastic products that would otherwise become litter or landfill. Our technology for the development of enzymes relies on unique skills and capabilities in genetic engineering, computational gene sequence analysis, enzyme structure analysis and machine learning. We are also using this technology to improve the performance of enzymes for a variety of different sectors including diagnostics, life sciences research, food ingredients and pharmaceuticals.

We are growing rapidly in the coming months and we would like to recruit a Research Scientist to fit some or all of the following criteria:

Activities

  • Computational analysis of gene sequences
  • Handling and analysis of large complex datasets involving genes and protein structures
  • Analysis of statistical variations in natural variants of proteins/enzymes
  • Developing machine learning tools to identify patterns in gene sequences related to protein/enzyme function
  • Developing connections between protein structure and function
  • Developing visualisation tools for protein structure and gene sequence analysis

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • General capabilities in mathematical, computational or scientific research
  • Familiarity with machine learning and/or artificial intelligence methods
  • Significant expertise in computing techniques including programming/coding
  • Technical data analysis and report writing
  • Strong technical presentation and communications skills
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate within a small team
  • Degree (BSc/MSc) or PhD or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g. computer science, biophysics, computational biology, computer simulation, computational modelling)
  • Ideally experience of the application of machine learning to gene sequence, amino acid sequences and protein functions
  • Ideally some knowledge of protein structure analysis and prediction

Entropix welcomes applications from suitable candidates who want to be part of a young, ambitious, high-tech company making products that are capable of transforming a wide range of sectors and improving sustainability in plastics and other industrial processes.

Our company values of Integrity, Collaboration and Innovation underpin our work. Entropix is an equal opportunities employer.

We offer a competitive salary/pension and we share our success through an employee share option scheme.
